ANTENNAS PLACEMENT ANALYSIS


There are a lot of techniques for simulation of antennas in free-space. However, in practice, antennas are mounted on physical structures that subsequently may significantly change radiation characteristics. Measurements of an antenna which is installed on a large platform (in means of wavelength), such as a ship or aircraft or inside a small structure, such as a mobile phone, could be difficult to perform. Therefore, exists a task to accurately simulate the interaction of an antenna with surround environment.

EM Infinity provides analysis of the optimal antenna placement:

  • Near field
  • Far field installed radiation patterns
  • Mutual coupling
  • Induced voltage
  • Optimization of antenna installation on different platforms, such as vehicles, ships and aircrafts

For antennas placement analysis, we are using ANSYS HFSS and ANSYS HFSS SBR+ (Savant). The simulation methods which are used:

  1. For small / medium problems (in means of wavelengths) we use accurate numerical methods
    • Finite Element Method (FEM), including domain decomposition method, done in HFSS
    • Method of Moments (MoM), done in HFSS-IE
    • Finite Element Boundary Integral (FEBI) approach, done in HFSS
  2. For large problems we use high frequency approximation methods, such as
    • Physical Optics (PO), for metals and dielectric materials, done in HFSS
    • Shooting and Bouncing Rays (SBR) with simultaneously consistent implementations of┬áPhysical Theory of Diffraction (PTD), Uniform Theory of Diffraction (UTD), and Creeping Waves, done in SAVANT / HFSS SBR+
